RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool. Training and assessment for the NPLQ are in three sections, and candidates must successfully pass all to attain the qualification.

 

Lifeguard Course Pre-Requisites

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16-years-old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

- Jump/dive into deep water
- Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
- Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
- Tread water for 30 seconds
- Surface dive to the floor of the pool
- Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits

Lifeguards benefit from varied working hours, which can easily fit around other commitments, the experience of working within a team, and the opportunity to progress within the leisure industry - most leisure managers start as pool lifeguards.

RLSS UK Trainer Assessor

RLSS Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessors are responsible for the delivery of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) throughout the UK. If you are an experienced Pool Lifeguard, then this could be the next step in your leisure career.

 

The Trainer Assessor course is a week in duration and comprises of four modules:

- Train the Trainer

- Train the Assessor

- CPR and First Aid 

- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification specialism.

This course is designed to develop the skills of swim coordinators and swim programme managers. Candidates will attend 1 day a month over 3 months and continually develop their skills in their workplace during the duration of the course. -        retention of customers

-        recruitment and retention of swim teachers.

This 2-day course is designed as an introduction for those who are interested in becoming a swimming teacher. The course includes practical and classroom learning which will cover the following - roles and responsibilities of a swimming teacher and ways of working in a teaching environment.

If required, following the completion of this course, we guide you towards finding volunteering opportunities and access to the Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification.

Scottish Swimming Early Childhood Swim Teaching Qualification (SVQ)

The purpose of the course is to enhance knowledge and standardise the current provision of delivery for Early Years.

In addition to developing knowledge of the fundamental principles that underpin child development, learners will also gain practical teaching techniques, games and activities which will enhance learning and development. Thorough feedback and peer evaluation will ensure that Teachers will have the opportunity to develop their skills for delivering in an Aquatic Environment.

The new Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ) is the industry standard for those who wish to teach unsupervised to groups of swimmers with a range of abilities and is essential for seeking employment as a swimming teacher. This qualification is achieved from a practically-based course and will allow you to gain the necessary skills and experience prior to progressing to an aquatics working environment. For those with an existing Level 1 or higher qualification Scottish Swimming have also developed a Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ) Conversion course. 

This Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification SSTQ Conversion course is suitable for candidates who have an existing Level 1 Teaching qualification or higher. Candidates will be issued with a Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ) upon completion of this course. It is expected that individuals applying to do the Conversion Course will be practicing teachers with reasonable experience since becoming qualified.

Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 1 Coaching Swimming

The Level 1 Certificate for Coaching Swimming sits as the first formally assessed qualification on the coaching qualifications pathway. Unit 1 is a common unit to all of the aquatic strands (Swimming Coaching, Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo) and has a focus on the “how to coach” skills with the technical emphasis on movement literacy (as defined by the Long Term Athlete Development framework for swimming). It is envisaged that this unit can be delivered to all Coaches who wish to work in the aquatic environment. Unit 2 Swimming Coaching has a focus on Swimming Coaching technical knowledge and practical skills that will allow the Coach to fulfil the role.
